MISSION: Step Up Women's Network is a national nonprofit membership organization dedicated to strengthening community resources for women and girls. Through hands-on community service, mentoring, and fundraising for women's health and critical issues, we educate and activate our membership to ensure that women and girls have the tools they need to create a better future.

Organized a fundraiser to provide a wheel chair for a little girl

Organized a fundraiser to provide a wheel chair for a little girl (Diana) born with no limbs. The target was to raise $ 15,000 for a child wheelchair. Together a $25,000 wheelchair was supplied to Diana that she will be able to use through her adult life and has ventilation for when she wears prosthetics. The remaining money was placed in an account for her education.

American Heart Association Corazones Unidos Gala

. American Heart Association Corazones Unidos Gala - American Heart Association Fourth Annual Corazones Unidos at the Beverly Hilton Hotel. This event is unique in that all net dollars raised by this gala directly support American Heart Association sponsored Latino programs affiliate-wide. LaLa (cooking for 6) was a Live Auction item and also donated items to the silent auction. In total she raised over $2,000.00.

Project Amiga

LaLa teaches nutrition at Prenatal Educational Workshop. Chef LaLa volunteers her time and teaches pregnant women the importance of healthy choices. Project Amiga is a community-based, nonprofit 501(c) 3, volunteer organization founded in 1989 in Los Angeles, California. For more than 15 years, the mission of Project Amiga has been to reach out to the residents of Los Angeles County and to address the high unemployment and school dropout rate among Latinos. Through Project Amiga's commitment, we will expand our services and assist teens, young adults and their families, affording them the opportunity for a better quality of life.

Chef LaLa joined First Lady Maria Shriver in Watts California for the California School Garden Network. The California School Garden Network is a collaborative effort of a number of educational institutions, non-profit organizations, private and government partners committed to enhancing learning through the use of teaching gardens in schools and other community settings. Gardening with children has the potential to improve academic performance, increase ecological literacy, and improve dietary habits of children.

World-renowned chef, caterer, television host, nutritionist and author, Chef LaLa's life is a poetic maze.  In our intimate interview I tried to decode the operating principles behind her success with pre-written tailored questions.  Lost in a labyrinth of emotions from hysterical laughter to eyes laden with tears, my one hour scheduled interview turned into an entire evening of sharing, learning new cultures, dining, and co-mingling with amazing people in her life.  I couldn't have asked for more.

American Cancer Society - Chef LaLa participates in the The Seventh Annual Cancer Society's Cattle Baron's Ball - Orange County Gold Rush at the Newport Dunes Waterfront Resort in Newport Beach, CA. Proceeds from the Ball will be used to STOMP OUT CANCER by funding the activities of the Cancer Society Orange County Region, including grants, educational programs for prevention and early detection, and direct services to local cancer patients and their families.

A recent audit conducted by the US Department of Justice Office of the Inspector General demonstrates that: 95% of children with a CASA volunteer do not languish in long-term foster care. 90% of children with a volunteer do not reenter the child welfare system

Chef LaLa joins forces with the Los Angeles Sheriff's Department Vital Intervention Directional Alternatives (V.I.D.A.) Program. The V.I.D.A. program is an intensive 16-week youth and family program designed to educate at-risk youth to redirect negative behavior and deal with the consequences of poor choices. V.I.D.A. also helps build self-esteem and motivates participants to successfully break the continuation of criminal behavior and actions. The program is overseen by Deputy Salgado of the Los Angeles Sheriff's Department. Celebrity Chef LaLa was invited by Sheriff Lee Baca to provide a snapshot to these teens about the challenges she faced while on the road to success.

The Latin Food Award for Excellence was Presented at Expo Comida Latina Los Angeles.

LA's BEST — Better Educated Students for Tomorrow — is a nationally recognized after school education, enrichment and recreation program serving more than 26,000 children with the greatest needs and fewest resources throughout the City of Los Angeles. LA's BEST After School Enrichment Program provides a safe haven for children, ages 5 to 12, at 168 elementary school sites each day during the critical hours after school — at no cost to parents.
