Prevent Diabetes – Expo Comida Latina. LaLa teaches the food industry how to incorporate healthy eating into their establishments and products.

While pregnant Chef LaLa worked on PSA’s via radio media tour to raise awareness on gestational diabetes.

MISSION: Step Up Women’s Network is a national nonprofit membership organization dedicated to strengthening community resources for women and girls. Through hands-on community service, mentoring, and fundraising for women’s health and critical issues, we educate and activate our membership to ensure that women and girls have the tools they need to create a better future.

Chef LaLa joined First Lady Maria Shriver in Watts California for the California School Garden Network. The California School Garden Network is a collaborative effort of a number of educational institutions, non-profit organizations, private and government partners committed to enhancing learning through the use of teaching gardens in schools and other community settings. Gardening with children has the potential to improve academic performance, increase ecological literacy, and improve dietary habits of children.

Organized a fundraiser to provide a wheel chair for a little girl (Diana) born with no limbs. The target was to raise $ 15,000 for a child wheelchair. Together a $25,000 wheelchair was supplied to Diana that she will be able to use through her adult life and has ventilation for when she wears prosthetics. The remaining money was placed in an account for her education.

• American Heart Association Corazones Unidos Gala - American Heart Association Fourth Annual Corazones Unidos at the Beverly Hilton Hotel. This event is unique in that all net dollars raised by this gala directly support American Heart Association sponsored Latino programs affiliate-wide. LaLa (cooking for 6) was a Live Auction item and also donated items to the silent auction. In total she raised over $2,000.00.

LaLa teaches nutrition at Prenatal Educational Workshop. Chef LaLa volunteers her time and teaches pregnant women the importance of healthy choices. Project Amiga is a community-based, nonprofit 501(c) 3, volunteer organization founded in 1989 in Los Angeles, California. For more than 15 years, the mission of Project Amiga has been to reach out to the residents of Los Angeles County and to address the high unemployment and school dropout rate among Latinos. Through Project Amiga's commitment, we will expand our services and assist teens, young adults and their families, affording them the opportunity for a better quality of life.

Además del entretenimiento que hemos preparado para ese día, le ofrecemos opciones sobre seguros de salud y otros programas disponibles, información, recursos sobre educación, dietas y ejercicios para así mejorar su calidad de vida y la de su familia.

Este año tenemos el gran honor de contar con la presencia de Chef Lala quien vendrá a compartir sus secretos saludables de la cocina Latina. También contamos con la presencia de Maria Marín quien nos dará consejos sobre como llevar una vida saludable y productiva.

Este será un día para ayudar a nuestros hijos y familiares a prevenir la Diabetes, y si alguien en la familia tiene esta condición, podrá aprender a manejarla y ayudará a sus seres queridos a tener una vida más sana y feliz.

American Cancer Society - Chef LaLa participates in the The Seventh Annual Cancer Society’s Cattle Baron’s Ball – Orange County Gold Rush at the Newport Dunes Waterfront Resort in Newport Beach, CA. Proceeds from the Ball will be used to STOMP OUT CANCER by funding the activities of the Cancer Society Orange County Region, including grants, educational programs for prevention and early detection, and direct services to local cancer patients and their families.

LaLa is an active supporter of Para Los Ninos. Para Los Ninos is a beacon of hope in impoverish neighborhoods in Southern California. With a loval and national reputation for award-winning excellence, Para Los Ninos provides the highest quality care and education for children, youth and families living in poverty. Muralist inspires Foster Children – Lala provides Lunch. How CASA Volunteers Help Foster Children The benefits that a CASA volunteer provides a foster child have been well documented. A recent audit conducted by the US Department of Justice Office of the Inspector General demonstrates that: 95% of children with a CASA volunteer do not languish in long-term foster care. 90% of children with a volunteer do not reenter the child welfare system

Speaking of Women’s Health - A day at a Speaking of Women’s Health conference is a day where women can step away from their hurried everyday lives, focus on taking care of just themselves for one day, and rejuvenate their spirits. Speaking of Women’s Health conferences include free health screenings, beauty consultations, dynamic keynote addresses (by Chef LaLa) and breakout sessions on important women’s health topics. California kicked off National 5 A Day Week with the release of new fruit and vegetable consumption data from the California Dietary Practices Surveys. LaLa has worked on several programs to promote health and the incorporation of the consumption of fruits and vegetables.

LaLa is on the Jr. board of LA's Best friends where she is working closely with developing a "healthy snacks" incentives with the after school program. LaLa is also a Jr. Board Member. LA's BEST — Better Educated Students for Tomorrow — is a nationally recognized after school education, enrichment and recreation program serving more than 26,000 children with the greatest needs and fewest resources throughout the City of Los Angeles. LA's BEST After School Enrichment Program provides a safe haven for children, ages 5 to 12, at 168 elementary school sites each day during the critical hours after school — at no cost to parents. Established in 1988, LA's BEST is a partnership including the City of Los Angeles, the Los Angeles Unified School District and the private sector.
